Welcome to the Sudbury Astronomy Club Website!

We are a local club that gets together regularly for monthly astronomy talks (at our regular meetings on the first Friday of every month), enjoy regular star parties (at our observatory and local schools), and other local astronomy related events.

This website is to reach out to new people who may be interested in joining us in our events, and also to our current members to find information on upcoming events.

Feel free to contact us at any time for more information.

Below is a list of upcoming events.

At our AGM in February, several points were raised that need further discussion. The biggest issue is our financial viability. Your executive wants to make sure that all members are properly informed of the details before any action is voted on. With that in mind, our intention is to present to the members at the APRIL meeting, all of the details and the options facing our club. In this way, the executive feel that all members will be properly informed in advance of a vote for a decision. Please be aware that only members in good standing who have paid their annual membership dues will be eligible to vote at the MAY meeting. During the JUNE meeting, the members will vote on a choice for meeting dates, those being the first Friday of the month or the second Friday of the month. This vote will then resolve this question for a period of 2 years. I will then publish a full calendar for next year’s meetings. The remaining dates for our meetings in our current year will be:
March 1
April 5
May 3
June 7

This presentation will be about the transformation of a large aperture telescope from a concept to a wonderful portable instrument with superb planetary and deep sky performance. The presenter will also describe a breakthrough process used on this telescope on how to apply a chemical silver coating followed by a protected thin film over-coating that can be performed at home. The process opens a new world of pos-sibilities for low cost and high performance large reflector telescopes.
